The Stenger Farm Continued

I took advantage of my current empty schedule to visit the Stenger farm this week. As always, it was fun and educational.

John Stenger gives minerals to some of his sheep.

One of the farm's sheep dogs sits in the barn to be near her puppy.

John and Bob Stenger release a calf, after tagging it.

SAPA Winter Formal

I was fortunate to spend some time with friends this weekend at the WVU Student Association of Public Administrators winter formal. They asked me to snap a few photos while I was there, and these are a few of my favorites. There's nothing too fancy image-wise - just a lot of fun.

Athens Reunion 2010

This post is a little late, but then they usually are. Two weeks ago, I returned to Athens for only the third time since graduation. I met up with my three best Ohio University friends, two of whom I hadn't seen in over four years. Shenanigans ensued. I wasn't there to take pictures, so I won't share many of the for-fun shots that I ended up taking. But this blog started at OU, and my early posts were full of random Athens shots. It seems necessary to share a few.

The Stengers

The Stengers are another farming family that I have been photographing as part of my thesis. John Stenger owns several farms in Harrison County, WV, where he raises cattle, sheep, and a few goats. John has been farming for around 40 years.

A calf lies dead on the Stenger farm. The vet suspected a bacterial infection.

Zula Stenger demonstrates FaceTime to her father, John.

John cuts down a tree, which is destined to be part of the house he is building on the farm.

Sheep, after being weighed.

Zula pets one of her favorite goats.

Blood spurts from a goat's head, after its horns were sawed off. The removal was necessary, as its head kept getting stuck in the fence.

Mountain Harvest Farm

These are a few images from an ongoing project on Mountain Harvest Farm in Morgantown, WV. Mountain Harvest is a vegetable farm that uses organic practices. It is owned and operated by husband and wife team Mary Oldham and Chico Ramirez. As well as operating a CSA, the farm sells at the Morgantown Farmers Market.

Latest Projects

My food and farming project is in full swing. I've only finished one project, but I'm currently working on two others. I'll be adding other projects, over the next six months. I've also recently launched a website, which you can visit here.

This is my latest project, a video story on The Hardesty family of Working H Farms. You can also view it on my website, here.

Farming in West Virginia

I've finally gotten started on my thesis project - a visual exploration of food and farming in West Virginia. It's only just getting off the ground, but these are a few of the images I have made in the past  few weeks.

Missouri Outtakes

Here are few more images from my Missouri Photo Workshop project, on a pumpkin farm near Platte City, Mo.

Updates

I know it's been awhile since I've posted anything, but that's not because I haven't been shooting. In fact, I have the opposite problem; I've been so busy shooting that I have barely had time to sleep, let alone blog. One of the things that has kept me busy is attending the 66th Missouri Photo Workshop. It was an amazing experience, which I will be blogging about more fully, later on. In the meantime, here are some of the images from my story The Kids' Farm. You can see the full story here

Osage Fair

The community of Osage, WV, right outside of Morgantown, held a community street fair on Saturday. I filmed the festival as the back up videographer, but of course I had to snap a few stills too.
